- Meeting #10, we've finally hit double-digits! This meeting was also our last before applications are due! See the "Lead" page for more information regarding position roles and the application. Turn them in to Rubab or Mrs. Zacharayasz in the Media Center no later than May 1. We strongly encourage those who want to gain more leadership skills and work with UNICEF in the future to apply. Those who are selected will be likely candidates for National Council, Leadership Symosium, and Campus Clubs.
- This month's featured topic: poverty. Contrary to popular belief, poverty affects more than just monetary income, but also lifestyle. One way UNICEF identifies with poverty is by the impact it has on food choices. Can you take a guess as to how much money a person in poverty spends on meals? $1.50/day! This is what you call the "poverty line."
- The poverty cycle is another vital proponent of our club that culminates all that we have learned throughout this year, consisting of education, disease, and health:
- family in poverty → child grows in poverty → child does not get an education → child cannot find a job → child fails to escape poverty → family in poverty.
- In honor of our featured topic this month, we decided to team up again with an organization close to our own, Meals on Wheels, that works to get food to elderly and disabled individuals who couldn't get it otherwise. Recipients often get the cold portion of their meals in a paper bag, so to add a little life to the bag and brighten up their day, we decorated bags to be given to the nearby Meals on Wheels in Westlake.
