- Featured Topic: Malnutrition
- October is an especially important month for UNICEF and it centers around this fundamental question: the world produces enough food for a population of 10 billion, so why then does 1 person in 9 go to bed hungry each night? This translates to about 800 million people hungry, about 200 million of which are kids and so the consequences are exacerbated because they are in such a critical period of their life where they are still growing and developing. To be clear, malnutrition isn’t just hunger-- it’s when your body is not even meeting the basic nutrients it needs and it begins to eat at itself to survive.
- This is not just a tragedy, it is a violation of a basic human right. The point in discussing these topics is not so that we can sit around and be sad, but that we take action and respond. UNICEF has been coming up with innovative ways to get young people involved in addressing these crises, one of the most iconic being Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.
- This year, we’re going to put a spin on this traditional fundraiser and turn it into a Change War within our school. The money raised will still support this campaign and contribute to the fight against malnutrition but our goal is to have it be more interactive and get a greater population of the student body involved. The fundraiser will take place from October 24-28, essentially the week leading up to Halloween, and the two teams with the highest points by the end of the week will receive donuts!
