- Welcome to UNICEF 2016-2017!
- For new and old members alike, today we’re going back to the basics: what is UNICEF? What exactly do we do as a high school club? And why do we do it? Given that we will be jumping across a range of featured topics every month, it’s important that sometime we go back to the core principles of our group.
- UNICEF stands for the United Nations Children’s Fund. In its simplest form, we are a club whose sole mission is to create a world where the right of every child is realized because if we don’t stand up for children, we don’t stand up for much. This makes us unique among all world organizations, we are a kids-helping-kids movement.
- This is two-fold, not only do we raise awareness about the state of children in developing nations around the world, we match it with action. All together, our year revolves around educating, advocating, and fundraising for children’s rights. Refer to the video found in the “About” page to get a picture of UNICEF’s work in the field. We are a huge organization and the video will give you an idea of both our reach and influence.
- So now that you know about UNICEF in the field, let’s talk about you in the club. First and foremost, we do not mandate you to go find your own service hours. You will have to participate in projects and attend our meetings, that is where membership comes from, but we will bring all the opportunities to you. The way our club works is based on a point system. Please see the Membership Roster under our “Join” page for an up-to-date list on where you stand this year.
- All members are required to have approximately 15 points by the end of the school year. Points may be earned through attendance, recruitment, and participation in UNICEF events.
- To get an idea of some of the projects that we will initiate, please see below on our past blog posts!
- October is going to be a big month for us because we are already in the works of setting up a Change War fundraiser. Also keep an eye out for opening leadership positions which we will be releasing an application for come December.
