- If you missed our last meeting, you must read on so that you can catch up on everything we covered! Attendance was mandated and double the points were given to recruiters at this meeting.
- Congratulations to all the members who participated in the LEAP Project (pictures below). The writings are all unique and force you to think of the many privileges like opportunities, support systems, and warm hugs that we often take for granted. Our purpose in participation was to trigger that though process so that was an overwhelming success!
- Our raffle basket fundraiser is set for March 14 - March 17, which is the week before Spring Break. We will be selling tickets during all lunch periods these days for $0.50/ticket and winners will be drawn at the end of the week. All proceeds will be put toward the UNICEF Tap Project Campaign since this is World Water Month.
- We took more sign-ups for table volunteers and basket donations which can earn 1 point and 3 points, respectively. If you're interested in signing up for either spot, please email Rubab at [email protected] ASAP. We will be sharing out spreadsheets with this information to those who signed up soon.
- Please submit completed baskets on Friday, March 11 to Rm. 710 along with a list of items included in the basket. If you're having trouble coming up with an idea, consider the following links: Basket Ideas 1 & Basket Ideas 2. Keep in mind, your basket does not need to be a "basket" per se, it just has to be in some general container. Check the following link for more creative ways to package your items: Basket Ideas 3.
- New incentives! Each member in groups submitting baskets will get 3 points and 5 raffle tickets to enter in any basket of their choosing. Additionally, the basket that sells the most tickets will get 2 more membership points. So that's potentially 5 tickets and 5 points- good deal!
- Since it's a new month, we do have a new featured topic, appropriately titled WASH, standing for "Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene." As we covered last month with the gender gap, there's another gap we need to examine and that's the one between having to walk to your kitchen sink for water and having to walk 4 km to a communal well to get a jug of water for your family. And it's not just an aesthetic or convenience problem, water and sanitation issues are the second leading cause of preventable childhood death, with 2.5 billion people lacking improved sanitation facilities.
- Take a second to reflect, how much water do you use everyday? For the average person, the answer is 80-100 gallons! Let that prove how crucial a role water plays in your everyday life. It's hard to imagine a reality where the tap doesn't exist!
- UNICEF has identified this problem and come up with an engaging and innovative solution. It's called the Tap Project. Check out the following video to learn all about how you can turn your mobile network into a water network.
- Now that you understand the campaign, it's time to go to work! Running through all of March, we're having our annual Tap Competition. Take screenshots like the one below as you put down your phone for the Project. At the end of the month, the 3 members with the most hours collectively will earn 4, 3, and 2 membership points extra, plus an authentic UNICEF t-shirt (and more prizes to come!). So go out and start getting those hours, you're time has already begun!
