Really sorry about the sudden day change; we were off school October 16th and had to reschedule our meeting, but, hopefully, that won't happen again in the future.
Here's a quick recap of what we covered:
Here's a quick recap of what we covered:
- October is finally here, which means Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is just around the corner. Because it takes some time to deliver, we decided to order our boxes in bulk this year. We talked briefly about the campaign and will tie any and all loose ends about it at the next meeting. We'll be distributing boxes then, as well. We're looking into partnering with Key Club for the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF project (because Kiwanis just so happens to be a partner of the United Nations Children's Fund) so there's a good chance you may be able to earn a couple service hours if you're also a member of Key Club. Center Middle School has also agreed to take part in the project, so our potential for success is literally going through the roof!
- Members began work on UNICEF posters to get word out about our coming fundraiser. The creativity that our club possess is just stellar, which you'll be able to see when we hang them up. All unfinished posters are to be completed during our next meeting.
- We went over our featured topic of the month: malnutrition. Malnutrition literally means "bad nourishment" which is caused by a lack of sanitation, proper hygiene, and clean water. These factors are all linked to poverty and malnutrition is currently the #1 cause of child mortality.
- Decided that leadership applications are now going to be due on Friday, October 24, taking into consideration the fact that many members were not able to access the document online. Completed forms are still to be turned in to Ms. Barba or Rubab, and you can find us both in Room 701 first period.
