- Our financial account is waiting to be approved at the next school board meeting which is the reason why we are currently not doing any major fundraising activities. But don't worry, there will be some coming up soon! In fact, working out the logistics now will make it easier on the busier end of the year.
- Krispy Kreme fundraiser has been set for mid-April with a goal of 50 boxes (of dozens). Each one will cost $8 and we will profit $4.25 per box. This puts our overall profit at $212. This is not bad at all for 2 weeks of pre-sale. Another exciting opportunity: although members will be recommended to sell 3 boxes each, the top 5 sellers will receive their own box of dozen free! More information will be coming soon on how to take orders and bring back payment.
- We were considering another fundraiser sometime this year to sell Chocolate Bunnies (either suckers of full bars) during the Easter time, but the idea was ruled down. Unfortunately their may not be enough time this to implement it. We may push it to next year instead.
- This month's featured topic is gender equality which we recognize as equal access to rights and opportunities. Like the child trafficking topic of last month, it is still very much alive in our world in the fields of stereotypes, education, employment, etc. You watched the superbowl, yeah? Remember the #LikeAGirl commercial?
- Sidebar, if you haven't taken the "How many slaves work for you?" survey, then do it now at Slavery Footprint, and let me know what you get at the next meeting. Did you beat our class average of 37?
- Malala Yousufzai, a 17 year old teen from Pakistan, is one figure who particularly emulates gender equality. What's amazing about her is that after she was shot by the Taliban, she became, arguably, more passionate about the cause.
- Like "Not My Life" which we watched at the last meeting, UNICEF has also made another video on this topic called "To Educate A Girl," if only we could freeze time and watch it all! We did check out the trailer though, and you can to right below:
- And finally, in the spirit of Valentine's Day, we created handmade pen roses for the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center in Cleveland. The mission of this organization is to empower individuals, educate the community and advocate for justice. A lovely organization with many of the same ideals as us, each member was advised to make 3 roses and the outcome was excellent; just check them out!
