- Thank you to all who came down from their classes to join us for our yearbook photo, and especially to those who wore blue / UNICEF gear! You guys rock!
- With March and the Tap Project behind us, we decided to kick off our meeting with a tribute to the UNICEF Dirty Water Campaign. This initiative, launched in New York, involved creating a vending machine that sells only dirty water; you can choose from all flavors from Cholera to Malaria to Typhoid. All the money put into the machine went straight to UNICEF lifesaving work. So we, too, drank some "dirty water" at our meeting (disclaimer, it was mixed colors of fruit punch!).
- We also reviewed everyone's hours for the Tap Project. You only needed 5 minutes to earn you 1 membership point. Our three winners earned 4, 3, and 2 points, respectively, in addition to their very own UNICEF authentic t-shirts.
- Tremendous congratulations to our winners this year:
- Amelia El-Mahdy - 1st Place (512 hours, 21 minutes)
- Megan Smith - 2nd Place (291 hours, 45 minutes)
- Sophie Kovach - 3rd Place (193 hours)
- Remember the impact of this is more than just a school competition. There are only winners in these kinds of events because we have nothing to lose. Remind yourself of the struggle that so many children around the world face everyday by checking out UNICEF's new animated series depicting true stories of children in Syria, "Unfairy Tales." The point as always, is not to make you feel bad, but to inspire you to continue to work for a better tomorrow. That is the heart of what UNICEF does, after all.
- So its April, now what? We're done with our formal "meetings" for now as we're gonna devote all or energy to making sure our fundrsiser is a success. After that, we'll conclude our UNICEF year with a great pizza party. Certificates for membership will also be distributed then! Do plan to attend as you deserve to be rewarded for all the hard work you've put in this year.
- Speaking of certificates, we have an update on membership requirements: if, by the end of our UNICEF year (that is, after your points have been calculated with all fundraiser help) you have 11-14 points, we will give you a pass and still count you for full credit IF you participated in the fundraiser either by making a basket or volunteering 4+ times for tables. Take advantage of this if you are trailing on points. A certificate is a great addition to your resume and a great physical reminder of your efforts.
- As for the fundraiser, we have received the school "okay" and are good to go! The date will be April 18 through April 22; the last day will serve to distribute the baskets only, no tickets will be sold. Please contact Rubab at [email protected] or through the Remind if you're still interested. NHS will be giving credit for both fundraising help options, as well.
- We also made posters to promote the fundraiser at this meeting for another event membership point. They look amazing and they will be going up real soon!
